Manufacturing & quality control

See the floor your order runs on — before you pay a deposit.

We do not own factories, and we think that is the point: it lets us place each product where it is genuinely made well. What we do own is the audit, the inspection and the report. Here is exactly how a Petlland factory earns a place in your programme, and how we keep it honest once production starts.

Auditing pet factories in the Pearl River Delta since

Step one

The five-point audit a factory passes before it sees your artwork

Roughly one in four factories we visit enters the partner base. The four that do not usually fail on documentation or on how they treat rework — not on machinery.

01

Legal & capacity

Business licence, export record, real headcount, line count and honest monthly capacity — verified on site, not from a PDF.

02

Social compliance

BSCI audit report or equivalent; working hours, wage records, age verification and dormitory conditions reviewed.

03

Quality system

ISO 9001 documentation, incoming material checks, calibration records and a defect log that shows real corrective actions.

04

Material traceability

Where the fabric, TPR, stuffing and board come from, plus test reports for the destination market.

05

Sample discipline

A trial SKU we pay for ourselves. If round-one feedback is ignored, the factory does not join.

On the floor

A production run, stage by stage

Technician inspecting components at a production workbench under bright light

Incoming material check: fabric weight, fill density and hardware pull strength logged before cutting begins.

Day 1 of production

First-article approval

The line stops after the first pieces. We compare against the sealed signed sample: dimensions, colour under D65 light, print registration, stitch density. Written go or no-go before the run continues.

At ~40% complete

Inline audit

Pulled samples re-measured, defect trend charted, photo set sent same day. Corrections happen inside your run rather than in an apology email afterwards.

Production complete

Pre-shipment AQL inspection

Random sampling per AQL 2.5 major / 4.0 minor, plus category testing: chew and tear resistance, seam pull, colour fastness, zip cycling, small-parts safety.

At sealing

Load supervision

Carton count and marks verified, drop test on a random master carton, moisture reading, container photographed empty and sealed. Then the report reaches you — before the balance payment is released.

No hidden standard

The AQL sampling table we actually inspect against

Single sampling, general inspection level II. Your report always states the lot size, the sample size and the accept/reject numbers, so any third party can re-check our arithmetic.

ISO 2859-1 single sampling, level II. Major defects AQL 2.5, minor defects AQL 4.0. Critical defects: zero accepted.

Critical defect

Anything that could injure a pet or a child: exposed wire, detachable squeaker, sharp edge, choking-size part. Zero tolerance, run held.

Major defect

Affects function or sale: broken stitch, wrong size, colour outside tolerance, misprinted barcode, packaging damage.

Minor defect

Cosmetic and unlikely to be noticed at point of sale: light thread end, faint surface mark, minor carton scuff.
